Decision Maker: Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities, Planning and Infrastructure

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Renewal of the Alcohol Related PSPO covering areas in Norden, Eastrop and Brookvale

Decision:

That the Head of Legal and Democratic Services in consultation with the Head of Environmental and Community Services make and publicise an area specific Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to make it an offence to drink alcohol after being required by an authorised officer not to do so; and to enable authorised officers (including community safety patrol officers, police constables and police community support officers) to request individuals to stop drinking and surrender any alcohol in their possession including opened or sealed containers.

Reasons for the decision:

The information and evidence available to the council, in addition to the responses from the public and stakeholder consultation, demonstrates a need and support for a new PSPO.  It allows the Council and police to deal with those who cause alcohol related ASB and the impact that it has on residents.

Alternative options considered:

Not implement an alcohol related PSPO (therefore continuing with the current approach).

Re-consult on a wider order which takes into account former, now expired PSPO areas and/or additional areas of the borough.
