Licensing Fees and Charges Report following an objection received pdf icon PDF 500 KB

Contact Officer: Tom Payne

This report requests that the committee consider the objection received by the Licensing Authority in relation to their statutory consultation on the proposed increase in fees related to hackney carriages and private hire.

Minutes:

The Licensing Team Leader introduced the report which requested that the Committee consider the objection received by the Licensing Authority, in relation to the statutory consultation on the proposed increase in fees relating to hackney carriages and private hire.

The Licensing Team Leader provided the Committee with an overview of the general process for implementing any new fees and charges and stated that the current proposed increase was 1.5% which was in line with inflation.

The Committee asked a range of questions and discussed the report which included:-

  • Had benchmarking been carried out with other comparable local authorities and if so why had these figures not been included in the report.

  • Clarification was sought in regard to how soon any new fees and charges could be implemented.

  • Does the Council have any evidence on what the cost of running a Hackney Carriage would be.

  • Had the fare rate increased over the last few years.

Resolved: The Committee

1)    Having considered the objection received by the Licensing Authority, agree to implement the proposed fees and charges as set out in Appendix 1 of the report.

2)    Request that the Licensing Team Leader works to implement the proposed fees as soon as is practicable.
